Secondary Water Meter Installations

Bluffdale City is currently installing secondary water meters on all pressurized irrigation connections, in accordance with Utah House Bill 242. Bluffdale City has hired PNL Construction to install a new pressurized irrigation meter at your property in the park strip where the existing service line is already located at no cost to you. The meter will be connected to the existing line feeding your irrigation system.

We anticipate minimal interruption to your secondary water service, but some digging near your secondary water line connection may be needed to complete the installation. Following installation, the contractor will restore the landscaping to its original condition. Depending on the time of year, sod replacement may occur at a later date.

Construction crews will be installing meters August - September 2024.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you installing meters?
The Utah Legislature passed House Bill 242, which requires that all Utah pressurized irrigation connections be metered by 2030. These meters help provide both customers and Bluffdale City with accurate secondary water usage data.

Where will the new meter be located?
The pressurized irrigation meter will be installed in the park strip of the public right of way. Once the meter is installed, you will notice a small lid covering the meter box. The lid will be flush with the ground surface. The City will be installing 1” meters and any fittings needed to connect to your irrigation system.

Will I lose my Canal Shares?
No, this project is adding a meter onto the connection you are already using.

Will my secondary water bill change?
If your HOA provides your secondary water, you will not be billed on usage. If the City provides your water, you will be charged monthly at the rate set in the City’s Consolidated Fee Schedule (currently $1.00 per 1,000 gallons used).

What do I need to do? Will there be any cost to me?
You will not need to do anything. If you are concerned that the new meter may need to be installed at a different location, please email us. There is no cost to you for the installation of the new meter.
